As a group worker, I consider myself flexible. Being flexible means to me that I’m able to step out of my comfort zone and work with what needs to be done. I am more strongly suited for jobs that consist of overall art, but if a group member needs me to work with something that's not what I do, I’ll be sure to try my best.
While in a group, I see myself as a creative thinker. A creative thinker to me means having the capability to brainstorm and create original, exquisite ideas. In Spanish, I had an alternative project due to personal beliefs, and I took it into my own hands to uniquely visually represent my family tree, instead of creating an altar. The challenge I face as a group member is taking leadership. I see myself as an extrovert socially, but in certain situations academically I’m an introvert. If I don't know my group that well, I tend to be more shy, and less open, leaving the role as a leader to be open to someone else. I could improve this challenge I face by connecting with my group personally to establish a firm foundation, then move up to take more action with projects. While in a group, I see that I hesitate to take risks. I like to take the much more shorter and easier path to get things done, because rushing a project that is big gives me headaches. I could improve this by listening to others opinions that I may consider risks, and push myself to openly accept them. Who knows, it may be something better.

For our project, I hope that our hard work we put into it will pay off, and our content will make and create a change in mindsets throughout our local community.
Hopefully once we present our work at exhibition, our parents, along with a possible sociology professor, will come and examine our exhibit thoroughly, and give feedback on what they liked and disliked to help beneficiate our learning further. We can present our information most accurately to our audience if we are engaging with the crowd by asking questions, and involving them in interactive information, rather than standing and waiting for them to ask questions. Over the last couple of weeks, my humanities class and I, myself have been constantly working on a project we call, ‘The Mask Project.’ Our content is focused around the Cycle of Socialization, and the different ways we’re identified by simply how we've been socialized. The main idea for us is to showcase our learning from the essays we wrote and handcrafted masks painted with symbols that represent societal pressures, or in other cases, a fake identity we wear to be able to ‘fit’ in.
The problem we hope to address from this exhibition is the stereotypes we face, and the different ways we’re socialized. We ask, ‘How can we change?’ by breaking the imbedded cycle we conscious or subconsciously conform to. Other than that, I'm excited for our exhibition because the role in it that I hope to have, is design. I've always been strong suited in design, whether she its artistic or more of a formal plan. Overall, working along with my classmates in a group will later on help me move forward with new groups to be patient, and more hardworking. |
